What is Westerplatte: The Board Game

In the board game "Westerplatte", you play the role of the commander defending the Polish stronghold in pre-war Gdańsk.

The first shots of the Second World War were fired at the Westerplatte peninsula in Gdańsk, when the Germans attacked a Polish military depot in the early hours of 1 September 1939. This game enables you to re-enact these events and influence their outcome. Can you hold out for as long as the real defenders did, or will the enemy force you to surrender sooner?

The game is divided into two stages: constructing the redoubt (1933–1939) and defending it (September 1939). During the first stage, you must build a defence system on Westerplatte without alerting the Germans by amassing too much armament. In the second stage, your defences will be put to the test in battle against German forces.

The game ends when either the barracks at the centre of the map are destroyed, or the final attack on 7 September is repelled. In two-player mode, there are two options: co-operative mode, where each player commands specific sectors and takes on the role of different commanders, each with their own in-game bonuses; and competitive mode, where one player plans the German offensive. The game includes several scenarios, each with a different level of difficulty.
