What is Hero of Rome: Usurper
Hero of Rome: Usurper is a lore-heavy, high-agency political simulator, grand strategy, and historical roguelite set in the treacherous aftermath of the Great Fire of Rome. You play as a wealthy Equestrian, one of the feared and powerful Rhenani. Your goal? Secure the role of Consul Suffectus within 48 months, safely install a new Emperor, and put in motion a plan to change Roman history as we know it.
At its core, Usurper blends tight resource management, push-your-luck dice resolution, and tableau-building into a ruthless race against time. Rome is a vast network of interconnected lives—remove one pawn, and you face a cascade of deadly consequences.
You don’t just draw random events; you actively maneuver through the Roman Forum. Choose your Plot targets carefully—from lowly clients to wives and daughters of the most powerful Patrons. You will need to spend your vast (but limited) treasury of Talents to bribe, intimidate, negotiate, romance, marry, or—when all else fails—send your targets across the River Styx.
But beware: every disappearance angers the victim’s Patrons, triggering a bloody chain of revenge. A successful plot lets you acquire the access and support of the powerful. A failed one drains your treasury or your priceless network of allies. And every single Intrigue moves you 2 months closer to the unavoidable deadline set by your co-conspirator.
