Azul

Introduced by the Moors, azulejos (originally white and blue ceramic tiles) were fully embraced by the Portuguese when their king Manuel I, on a visit to the Alhambra palace in Southern Spain, was mesmerized by the stunning beauty of the Moorish decorative tiles. The king, awestruck by the interior beauty of the Alhambra, immediately ordered that his own palace in Portugal be decorated with similar wall tiles. As a tile-laying artist, you have been challenged to embellish the walls of the Royal Palace of Evora.

About the game

What is Azul

Introduced by the Moors, azulejos (originally white and blue ceramic tiles) were fully embraced by the Portuguese when their king Manuel I, on a visit to the Alhambra palace in Southern Spain, was mesmerized by the stunning beauty of the Moorish decorative tiles. The king, awestruck by the interior beauty of the Alhambra, immediately ordered that his own palace in Portugal be decorated with similar wall tiles. As a tile-laying artist, you have been challenged to embellish the walls of the Royal Palace of Evora.

In the game Azul, players take turns drafting colored tiles from suppliers to their player board. Later in the round, players score points based on how they've placed their tiles to decorate the palace. Extra points are scored for specific patterns and completing sets; wasted supplies harm the player's score. The player with the most points at the end of the game wins.

In general, it is a very well made game. Components are pretty nice and with good quality, mechanics are simple and has lots of replayability. I think that's all. A simple game family friendly and enjoyable. Willing to take non-common modern board game players to a little insight of what The industry have to offer. It Is a game i will always play if the circumstances imply it.

Bought it in 2019 as my first Azul game. Tried it in a board games club and got it ASAP. I used to love it, my mom and group of friends as well. People use to not understand the points systems the very first time you explain it but over time they do. Would've rated 10/10 back then but it's gotten a bit old. It's a classic I'd recommend if you don't have any other AZUL, but both me and my friends prefer playing Azul queen's garden or summer pavilion nowadays.

One of my favourite games. We play it several times each day it goes out from its shelve. Recently, since it was put in the BGA, I play it everyday
