In Sovereign's Stratagem: Original, two rival monarchs face each other across a fractured 11x11 grid battlefield. Starting with a sparse initial standing army consisting of a Sovereign, two Sentinels, and six Pikemen, players must maneuver their base forces while leveraging their royal treasuries to dynamically recruit and deploy specialized mercenaries.

Qué es Sovereign's Stratagem: Original

Before each game, three mercenary unit cards are randomly selected from a pool of fifteen distinct classes (including Artillery, Dragoons, Assassins, Mystics, and Inquisitors) to form a shared, finite Barracks pool. On their turn, a player must choose to either Maneuver a piece already on the board (moving or capturing by replacement) or perform a Call to Arms—spending one of their five limited Draft Seals to drop a mercenary into their 3x3 Citadel or adjacent to their Sovereign. Advancing Pikemen across the central Frontier promotes them into Veterans with enhanced lateral mobility.

Victory is achieved by delivering checkmate—trapping and immobilizing the enemy Sovereign so they have no legal escape squares or defensive responses—or by completely immobilizing the opposing army. With zero hidden information, strict piece scarcity, and dynamic setup combinations, victory relies entirely on spatial control, draft economy, and tactical foresight.
